Associate Pastor’s Job Description and Person Specification.

Background

We are a church of evangelical Christians meeting in Crofton, an area with a population of about 15,000 people, between Orpington and Petts Wood in South East London. Our church family consists of people of all ages from a wide variety of backgrounds around the world. We continue to experience growth in numbers, made up of individuals and young families attending church services. We now need to appoint an Associate Pastor, to strengthen our staff team (currently three in number), and to oversee and further develop a vibrant Youth Work, so we can be a more effective missional family, helping people of Orpington and far beyond to know and follow Jesus Christ.

Our mission statement is ‘Helping people follow Jesus’. To that end we are looking for a gifted relational Bible teacher with strong pastoral and leadership skills, and with a proven track record in youth work. This person will work directly with our Senior Pastor, our staff team and our youth leaders, as well as helping to share in ministry across the whole church family.  Specifically, the holder of this role will have an evangelistic  heart for relationship-building, work with young people, discipleship and Bible teaching.

A new challenge

The decision to recruit to this post was made prior to the current pandemic.  We are aware that the shape of CBC will be different post lockdown than we envisaged at the time of our original decision.  Nevertheless as a church we are committed to embracing the ‘new normal’ and accept that there will be new and unexpected challenges.  We also believe that this time could be a fertile one for ‘helping people follow Jesus’.  So we are expecting any new Associate Pastor to come with us on this journey; to be open to what God is saying to us about priorities and new ways of doing church; to be flexible and versatile around tasks and roles and to be excited at what God has in store for His people.
